New York, NY—December 6, 2005—eMusic, the world’s No. 2 digital music download service, selling more than 3 million tracks monthly, today announced the launch of Hip-Hop Week—a celebration of independent hip-hop artists and labels. To kick off Hip-Hop Week, eMusic is making available to its subscribers two exclusive tracks from Koch and Vice Records: DPGC’s “Real Soon” featuring Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Kurupt and Daz Dillinger, and “Get Set” by Low Deep featuring Kano. Both are available exclusively to eMusic subscribers in advance of their album’s street date.

eMusic's hip-hop catalogue—one of the largest and broadest on the Internet—includes leading labels TVT, Rhymesayers, Definitive Jux, Quannum Projects, Delicious Vinyl, Babygrande and Lil Joe Records. Some of hip-hop’s most notable and outstanding artists boast tracks on the site, such as the Danger Mouse and MF Doom collaboration Danger Doom, 50 Cent, Ying Yang Twins, Mos Def, Public Enemy, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Lil Jon and The East Side Boyz, Pitbull, Kool Keith, The Streets, Talib Kweli, Young MC and D12.

For the launch of Hip-Hop Week, eMusic Magazine’s editor-in-chief Michael Azerrad has focused all featured content towards hip-hop to help subscribers navigate the site and discover new music. There will be a new “Review of the Day” each day of the week exploring the work of artists like Pharcyde, 2 Live Crew, Atmosphere and Cannibal Ox. Additionally, eMusic “Dozens” and “Spotlights” by the likes of Chuck D highlight the most essential hip-hop artists, albums and tracks while educating subscribers about the broad and illustrious history of hip-hop. Complementing this spirit of new music discovery, eMusic is offering subscribers free “Daily Downloads” from prominent and underground artists like Blackalicious, Diplomats, Danger Doom and Lady Sovereign.

“Hip-hop has a rich and colorful history rooted in the work of artists unwilling to compromise to the tastes of the musical mainstream,” said Scott Ambrose Reilly, Vice President of Label Relations at eMusic. “eMusic’s Hip-Hop Week is a way to pay homage to that history of creative independence while showcasing eMusic’s position as the number one destination for discovering independent music in every genre.”
