Biography

Boom Bip is a Cincinnati-based hip-hop artist whose command of the human beatbox and sample salvage has few equals beside Rahzel the Godfather of Noise. After playing in several bands during high school, he became a DJ in 1993 while attending college in Cincinnati. Offbeat turntablist methods gradually raised his profile, and he began recording for the Lex label. During 2001, Boom Bip collaborated on an LP with rapper Doseone and provided remixes for Four Tet and Jamie Lidell. He also began a series of breaks records (Doo Doo Breaks) for the Mush label and, in 2002, released his solo debut, Seed to Sun, as part of a contract between Lex and Britain's prestigious Warp. Blue Eyed in the Red Room followed in 2005. Two years later, after producing Busdriver's RoadKillOvercoat, Boom Bip released the Sacchrilege EP, a poppier and noticeably more danceable set of songs.
